Immigration

Illegal immigrants place great demands on law enforcement, our courts, the educational system and health care facilities. Research shows that illegal immigrants cost NC $817 million annually. NC currently ranks 8th nationally among states with the most illegals, which is known for its easy access to driver’s licenses. The state auditor recently found that over 27,000 driver’s licenses were issued using invalid social security numbers. Meanwhile, many of our citizens have been tragically killed by drunk drivers who were illegal immigrants. More must be done to ensure that illegals do not make NC their home.

  • Stop illegal immigrants from obtaining a driver’s license.
    • Introduced SB 298, Require Passport for Driver’s License. This bill would require non-US citizens to present a valid passport from their country and valid documentation from the US government showing they are in the US legally to obtain a NC driver’s license.
  • Penalize businesses who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
    • Introduced SB 573, Restrict Contracts & Benefits/Illegal Aliens. This bill would prohibit state economic incentives to companies that employ illegals and require state agencies to verify legality of person requesting state assistance.
  • Allow NC government agencies to assist with federal immigration processing
